Gig Review: More soon...
Gig Review: The Bull: I think that the
description might be "tight but memorable" ...a tag that several Band Members
might have used on several occasions over the years... ...but no, this was no
female conquest... this was the Bull at Benenden!!
It was great to be invited over by Mark (ex-landlord of the Cricketers in
Hawkhurst) to celebrate Steve Bunch's fortieth (Christ he looked older than
that!)... Come on Guys you must remember those Gigs back in the nineties... but
then again if they were good gigs you might not!
However back to the Bull... On arrival, there were a few "No way Del! ...have
you seen it in there?" but the Shots tend to rise to a challenge ...anyway once
Brian had erected his Mini-Platform out of logs to balance his drum kit on in
the Inglenook, and Neil and Paul had positioned themselves each with their heads
up the chimney either side. Sound-man Rich (fresh in from Borneo that
day... some might say "looked like it") had great enjoyment threading the
Multicore and power leads through the short-skirted local "fluff" (just love
that), that appeared to be somehow attached to the bar (the Joys of setting up
in an already crowded bar eh).
With the Sound-desk in another bar, a minimal sound-check was achieved.
Then in through the door walked Goon, Batey, Bobby, Tash, Deano and even Del's
Mum & Dad etc! Good effort guys! Jon then quite amusingly directed
Deano through the crowded Restaurant for a piss... Dean emerged red-faced to
thank Jon for his trouble!
If the crowd had not witnessed STB before, they were about to. Despite the
restricted conditions, the Shots managed to perform like only they can, with
Drummer Watesy (having also just flown in from Italy earlier that evening)
driving the Band through a pulsating set and still having enough energy to join
Landlord Mark, in an end of evening Irish Jig, much to the amazement of the
remaining punters.
Look out Michael Flatley, the Shots are in Town!!
